He was the son of Louis Victor Holst and Jean S K Holst of Villanova and graduated from Radnor High School, Wayne, PA in 1955 and Colgate University in 1959. Good friends and family knew him as Barry. Everyone else called him David. That’s how he wanted to compartmentalize his life. He enjoyed the memories of his childhood summers spent at Keewaydin, a summer camp for boys in Vermont, where he excelled in sailing and marksmanship. After graduating from Colgate University he served in the Army Security Agency with Top Secret and Cryptologic clearance from 1960-1966. He married Agnes Helen Bruce of Havertown, PA on June 30, 1962. He worked his entire career at James G. Biddle company (and its successor owners) in international technical sales and was a member of the lecturing staff of the Biddle Technical School. After retiring in 2000 he established and managed HV Test Technology, Inc. He was a member of the Harleysville Lions club since 1985 and Mason’s Lodge 558 since 2001. Agnes was his wife for almost 64 years and they enjoyed many activities together including camping, fly fishing in central PA, ,skiing and music at the Walnut Street Theater and the North Penn Community concerts. Travel was a favorite thing to do together and covered all seven continents.
He is survived by his wife Agnes B Holst of Sellersville, PA, his sister Martha H Purdy of Longwood, FL, son Christopher D. Holst of Harleysville, PA, daughter Susanna H Rice of York, ME and two grandsons, Rigel X. Rice and Leo A. Rice.
His ashes will be scattered privately by family. In lieu of flowers, donations to Keewaydin in his memory would be appreciated. Http://keewaydin.org/donate
