Jim was born on October 24, 1941 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to Carlo and Eva Pozzi. He attended St. Rays High School in Pawtucket before continuing his education at the University of Rhode Island where he earned degrees in Business & Engineering. While at URI, Jim was a founding member of its Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity chapter.
A dedicated professional, Jim spent over 35 years working for Grinnell Fire Protection. He began his career as a Drafter/Designer before advancing to Engineering Manager. His leadership and expertise led him to serve as the General Manager of Grinnell’s Philadelphia branch until his retirement in 2000.
Jim was a devoted husband of 56 years to Rosemary (Tessitore) and a loving father to Tina Jones (Wallace) and Deena Grattan (John). He cherished his role as Grandpa to J.P., Connor, and Ben Grattan; Hailey, Carley and Jace Jones. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Linda DeGraide & nephew Karl DeGraide.
Jim had a lifelong passion for sports. He dedicated many years to coaching girls' softball, including coaching his daughters' teams. His commitment extended beyond the field as he served as President of the Upper Southampton Youth Softball League. In recognition of his contributions, the league named a field in his honor—a testament to the lasting impact he had on young athletes and the community. An avid baseball fan, Jim enjoyed collecting baseball cards and cheering for the Boston Red Sox. He also followed the NFL Draft with great enthusiasm, crafting sought after mock drafts under his pseudonym "The Draft Dodger".
From 1965 to 1970, Jim served in the Rhode Island National Guard, demonstrating his dedication to service and country.
Jim will be remembered for his intelligence, hard work, and devotion to family and community. His legacy lives on through those who knew him and the many lives he touched over the years.
Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The National Down Syndrome Society in Jim’s memory at give.ndss.org
