Born on January 2, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John was the beloved son of the late John A. Conboy, Jr. and Margaret "Peg" Conboy. He was also predeceased by his brother, Edd Conboy.
John served his country in the United States Army before dedicating 30 years of his career to Conrail, where he built many friendships and took great pride in his work.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Carol Sterner Conboy; his loving daughters, Sheri Conboy of New York and stepdaughter Lisa Cahall Ganley (John) of Phoenixville; and his cherished grandsons, Tyler, Connor, and Austin Ganley. He also leaves behind his sister, Meg Conboy, and brother, Jim Conboy (Jane McNichol), along with many dear friends and extended family.
A lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, John's passion for his hometown teams never faded. Recently returning to Pennsylvania from Florida to be closer to family, John found great joy in spending time with his life-long friends and loved ones. His faith in Jesus was central to his life, guiding him through all seasons.
John had a deep love for all kinds of music, learning to play the bass fiddle and the autoharp - an instrument he brought along on a memorable trip to Israel in 1987. He expressed his creativity through stained glass art, found freedom riding his Harley, and enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of a good round of golf.
John will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his adventurous spirit, humor, generosity, and the love he shared so freely.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate John's life on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 2 p.m. at New Story Church, 110 Valley Park Road, Phoenixville, PA (the entrance to the sanctuary is in the back of the church). Following the service, we will gather at Lisa & John's home in Phoenixville to continue to honor him. (10 minutes from the church)
