Angel Luis Escobar, 67, of Middletown, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at his home.
He was born August 19, 1959, in the Bronx, NY, and was a son of the late Angel Luis Chiclana and Leonarda Escobar.
Angel spent many years as a Stone Cutter and Mason for The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in NYC. It was a passion of his to add his artistic touch to the completion of the church towers and looked forward to being there when the last stone would be finally laid. In the 90's, The Smithsonian Magazine featured a photo of him working on a stonecutting project for an article on St. John the Divine. He and his family were very proud.
He was an artist, teacher, brother, a great friend, husband, father, and an amazing grandfather. Out of all the jobs he held, being a grandfather was his most cherished endeavor. He was very soft spoken and very compassionate. It didn't matter if you just met him or knew him for a lifetime, he always made you feel comfortable and left an impression on you.
Angel loved watching boxing, landscaping (and videos of mowing), watching movies with his family, and using his artistic skills in building and creating things. He loved keeping himself busy but mostly enjoyed spending all his free time with his grandchildren. They brought him such great joy. He will be missed greatly.
Angel is survived by his wife, Maritza Cruz, of 49 years; his daughters, Angela Garcia, Maritza L. Cruz, and Crystal Cruz; his son, Angel Luis Cruz, and his 5 grandchildren, Destiny Cruz, Anna Ortega, Natalia Ortega, Ciel Garcia, and Solana Knight. His siblings: Lisandro Melendez, Dina Chiclana, Olga Escobar, Frank Chiclana, Efrain Chiclana, Ceceila Escobar, and Martin Escobar; and his many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Angel Luis Chiclana and Leonarda Escobar; siblings, Luisa Nieves, Cesar Melendez, Robert Melendez, Gloria Chiclana, Isabelo Paris and Jose Miguel Tapia.
A viewing will be held at Cremation and Burial Society of Pennsylvania, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109, on October 9, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm.
