
Born September 19, 1932 in Jacksonville, FL, he was a son of Ambrose E. and Arabelle Overly Meyer. He moved to Lancaster County as a child and was baptized in Ebenezer in Lebanon County. He graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School in 1951.
After graduating, he joined the US Navy and served as a metal smith on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and the USS Nereus. While serving he traveled to many locations including Gibraltar, Greece, Casablanca and US ports including Bremerton, WA and San Diego, CA. After serving his county, Charles worked at Posey Iron Works in Lancaster and Parish Press Steel in Reading.
His hobbied included studying American history, especially the Civil War, hunting, fishing and racing cars at Lancaster Speedway and the Path Valley Speedway.
Charles was a member of the National Rifle Association, Landis McCleaf Marine Corps League Home Association Inc., Zembo Shriners International, Free and Accepted Masons Lodge#43, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lancaster BPO Elks#134.
Surviving him are his sister, Marie Meyer Goeke and husband Walter of Brownstown, PA; two nieces, Linda and husband John Bradley Hoy of Douglassville, PA and Carol and husband Craig McClenaghan of Brownstown, PA; and one nephew, Theodore Goeke and wife Lisa (Kulp) of Akron, PA.
Interment will be at Ranck's Church in New Holland, PA at the convenience of the family.
