Born on October 27, 1945, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Alton H. Powell and Doris B. Powell.
David spent his entire career working in various areas of the construction industry, including time with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Most recently, he worked for Entech Engineering, where he retired. He took pride in his work and valued the many friendships he made along the way.
David was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, with a special place in his heart for the Eagles and Phillies. He rarely missed the chance to catch a game and always had an opinion to share about the latest win, tough loss, or questionable call. Win or lose, following his teams gave him plenty to cheer for and even more to talk about with family and friends.
David enjoyed a good conversation and spending time with family, friends, and those he met along the way. He will be remembered for the many friendships and memories he made throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, David E. Powell II of Lititz, PA and James M Powell of Mont Alto, PA; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a very special place in his heart. He especially enjoyed watching their sporting events, spending time with them, and being a part of their lives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Suzanne M. Young and a son John Alton Powell.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family and shared when they become available.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Veteran’s organization or association of your choice in David’s memory.
