George Samuel Mark

George Samuel Mark, Jr. died November 2nd at York Hospital at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, his son Jeff Mark, his daughter April Murphy, and grandchildren Mark Lear (Elysia); Randall Lear (Amanda); Erin, Shannon, and Maggie Murphy; and numerous nephews and relatives. He is predeceased by daughter Monica Lear (Billy) and sister Lois Taylor (Ted).

Patriotism and his family were first and foremost. He was a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel. Entering the service through the National Guard, he went to Aviation Cadet School to become a navigator, and then served an additional 26 years. Being a perpetual learner, he obtained a BS in Business, an MBA in Business Management, and attended numerous military schools: Air Defense Command, Industrial College Armed Forces, and Air War College Correspondence. He was given a Commendation Medal and retired in 1974 while serving in Defense Investigative Services in Washington DC. During his years of service, he and his family traveled to Newfoundland, Hawaii, Korea, Wisconsin, etc. and every battlefield in the US. After his service, he was a manufacturing representative for many years.

George was passionate about supporting service organizations, charities and churches. He was a lifetime member of: Air Force Association, Retired Officer Association, Shiloh American Legion, East Berlin VFW, NJ and PA Masonic Lodges, Delta Sigma PI, SAR and Wounded Warriers. These organizations and numerous charities benefited from his generous spirit, including Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Hour of Power, Unity Church and St. Jude Children's Hospital.

A list of his interests would be never ending – reading, geography, history, riding his tractor, watching the pond out his window, arguing politics, wise cracking, and the dictionary.

A Memorial Service will be held at George's beloved “What A Place” at 341 Wolf Road, East Berlin, on Sunday November 15th at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to any of the above organizations in George's name if you wish.
