John Adam Shutter Jr.

John A. Shutter, Jr of Lancaster passed away peacefully on August 26th at his home. Born January 5, 1947 in Lebanon PA the son of John Shutter Sr. & Catherine May Shutter. He graduated from Elco High School on June 7th 1964. He enlisted in the US Navy and entered into boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Following boot camp he attended Machinist Mate A School at Great Lakes Naval Training and was assigned to the USS LSD 14 Rushmore on duty in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of San Juan France. John made two Mediterranean cruises one in the North Atlantic and one in the Caribbean where his ship was involved in security for a space capsule drop.

John was honorably separated from the navy in December of 1967 and returned home to Myerstown. He married Phyllis Tryon and then moved to Reading where he worked for Metropolitan Edison at the Titus Station Power Plant. While in Reading the couple welcomed their daughter Andrea Rene and John entered and graduated from PA Game Commission's Training School, Ross Leffler School of Conservation in Brockway PA for 50 weeks. He graduated as a Wildlife Conservation Officer and was assigned to Lancaster PA where he stayed until his promotion to the Bureau of Law Enforcement at the Game Commission Headquarters in Harrisburg as Chief of Special Operations and was later promoted again to Law Enforcement Chief.

John retired with 33 years of service with the Game Commission and was a life long avid hunter and outdoorsman.

He is survived by his brothers Edward Shutter and Jeffrey Shutter along with his wife Phyllis Shutter, his daughter Andrea Anderson, her husband Jeffrey Anderson and his grandchildren Zoe and Quinlan Anderson.
