John Stevens Stapf Jr.

John Stevens Stapf Jr, age 85, of Harrisburg Pennsylvania passed away Monday August 14, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted family man, husband to Ann McManus Stapf and married mostly happily for 62 years. Besides his wife, he leaves children Katherine Branitsky and JoAnn Weller; grandchildren Alison and Julie Branitsky; sister Barbara Cleveland and sister-in-law Susan Stapf. He was born in Harrisburg to the late John Stevens Stapf and Mary Sullivan Stapf. He is predeceased by his brother Thomas G. Stapf.

He attended the Harrisburg Academy, Canterbury School and the Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston. John served as an Administrative Officer for the Office for the Attorney General. Prior he was President of the John Stapf Corporation and served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg. His passion was working on anything mechanical, especially his antique tractors. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Matthews the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church in Dauphin, PA and Friday August 25, 2023, 10:00 am. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Swatara Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in John’s name to the Bethesda Mission, Harrisburg, PA.
