

Kate was born on March 3, 1941, at York Hospital in York, PA, to Ivan Jr. and Marjorie (Switzer) Bortner. A spirited and mischievous child, she graduated 1959 from Pottstown High and later attended Pottstown Hospital School of Nursing & Penn State University. While working as a reporter for the Pottstown Mercury she met Lawrence M. Rogan.
Kate and Larry were married in 1966 and raised two children in Ardmore, PA. For several years she worked at Giannini Jewelers also in Ardmore. A dedicated Nanny for the Feil family; Kate worked as an associate at Project Marketing, Inc. in Berwyn, PA. She later returned to York in ‘07 following Larry’s passing in ‘06.
Kate had a deep appreciation for artistic and creative pursuits, including miniatures, model railroading, illustration, antique collecting, reading, and puzzles. Sharing her Celtic Heritage was an important family tradition.
She is survived by her daughter, Maureen Peer (Daniel); her son, David Rogan (Kazumi); and her granddaughter, Amanda. She is also survived by her sister, Cindy Swartz; (late Bud Swartz); her niece, Vicky Hoskin (Brian); and their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Rogan, and her parents, Ivan Jr. and Marjorie Bortner.
Kate will be remembered for her deep devotion to her Catholic faith, family genealogy, love of cats & costume ring jewelry.
A remembrance Mass will be held on Saturday April 25, 2026 at 12 noon at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 950 West Market St., York, PA 17401. Separate reception to follow.
