Michael Delphin “Mike” Gruber passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, after a long struggle with several health issues. Born in Harrisburg on June 2, 1955, Mike was the first-born son of the late Jack Ira Gruber and Sylvia Collins (Gruber) Stone.
Mike is survived by his devoted, long-time partner and love of his life Debra “Deb” Harbaugh of Marysville, sister Lynda Kay Bowen of Mechanicsburg, brother David Leo Gruber (Kathy) of Shiremanstown, and son Andrew Michael Gruber of Mechanicsburg. He leaves behind a niece, Brooke Bowen, and niece and nephew, Michaela and Dylan Gruber, along with cousins, aunts and uncle. Through his decades-long relationship with Deb, Mike also leaves behind her twin sons Robert and Timothy Harbaugh and their families. In addition to family and friends who mourn his passing, Mike’s absence is felt by the trio of furry family members he doted over: Abby, Molly, and Socks.
A 1973 graduate of Susquehanna Township High School, Mike worked primarily as a forklift operator for Borders Books and later for Menlo (Lindt Chocolates), from which he retired. He was a loyal, long-suffering Philadelphia sports fan who enjoyed gardening, growing and picking his own strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. He was a more than proficient baker (especially at the holidays) and was generous in sharing both his talent and his cookies. Mike loved taking day trips to Roots Market and September Farms and looked forward to his annual treks with Deb to Shady Maple Smorgasbord for a free birthday buffet. The man loved his red meat, prime rib in particular.
While we grieve his loss, we are also grateful that Mike’s body is no longer failing him, and that he has been reunited with loved ones who went before. We are ever grateful for the knowledge that we will one day see him healthy and whole again. A private celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the convenience of Deb and family.
