Joyce H. Mayer

Joyce Harris Mayer - 91 passed away in her sleep on June 5, 2026 in her home in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. She was born in Queens New York, daughter of Harold Harris and Dorothy Perkins Harris. She previously resided in Manhattan New York, Medford New Jersey, West Haven Connecticut, and New Orleans, Louisiana She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Bernard Charles Mayer and sister Jeanne Claire Snowberger.

She is survived by her son Robert Mayer, daughter-in-law Noralynn Luffy Mayer, grandsons Riley and Declan, sisters Janet Harris Halecky of Rockland County New York and Judith Harris Pappas of Fernandina Beach Fl, sister-in-law Ellen Mayer and niece Jennifer Mayer of Arnold Md, nephew John Mayer of Lincoln Park Nj

Joyce was a professional artist. She studied at the New York City Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences and began her career in book advertising eventually becoming one of the first women Art Directors. She eventually transitioned away from commercial art to focus on fine art. Many of her works were heavily influenced by anthropology. She was known for producing lithographs and mixed media featuring reinterpretations of paleolithic images and symbols. Joyce had many solo and gallery exhibitions and published two books. Her most ambitious work, The Cave of Art, was an installation of oil paintings 8 feet high and 55 feet wide which was accompanied by an original score by Grammy–winning composer Jay Weigel. The show was positively reviewed by the Times Picayune and was included in Germany’s Women Artists Creativity and Imagery 1972-1987.

She was a member of the American Color Print Society and The National Association of Women Artists. Her work won numerous awards and is included in many public and private collections including the New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans Contemporary Art Center, Villanova University, and the University of Oregon.
