Alice E. Hedden

Born on January 27, 1941, in Mercer County, Trenton, New Jersey, Alice was the only daughter of Lloyd and Vera Worthington. She later married and welcomed her only son, Bret Harrison Hedden. She worked for many years as an office administrator for a local car dealership before dedicating her life to what mattered most—her family.

In 1991, Alice made the selfless decision to adopt and raise her grandchildren, Bret H. Hedden Jr. and Alice M. Hedden, giving them a life filled with unwavering love, strength, and security. In 1998, she moved to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, to lovingly care for her mother, a reflection of the compassion that defined her entire life.

Alice had a lifelong love for animals and never turned away a stray in need. She found joy in gardening, birdwatching, puzzles, crosswords, playing cards, Yahtzee, and creating beautiful handmade Christmas ornaments that her family will treasure forever. She also enjoyed collecting wolves and butterflies and, in her younger years, loved playing the piano.

Fiercely independent, resilient, and endlessly resourceful, Alice taught those she loved that strength is found in perseverance, kindness, and unconditional love. Her greatest accomplishment was the family she nurtured and the countless lives she touched through her generosity and selfless heart.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Vera Worthington; her beloved son, Bret Harrison Hedden; her lifelong best friend, Kay Baus; and several cherished animal companions.

She is lovingly survived by her granddaughter, Alice Shoener and her fiancée, Carolyn Crossin, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; her grandson, Bret Hedden of Scranton, Pennsylvania; her great-grandchildren, Nikolai Shoener, Jasmine Hedden, and Anthony Hedden; and many dear friends who became family, including James Sullivan, Meredith Moxness, and Brett and Brenda Runne.

Alice's love, strength, and selfless devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she leaves behind an immeasurable void, her greatest legacy is the family she loved so completely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
