Clifton W. Hardesty

Clifton Warren Hardesty passed away peacefully Friday, December 29th, 2023 at St. Lukes Hospital in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. He was 95 years old. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2021, his sister Sally Moss, and his brothers Lee and Donald.

He is survived by his son Craig Hendricks and wife Imogen, West Sussex England; and his daughter Jill Coxe, Boston, MA; his grandchildren Tench Coxe and wife Angela, Steamboat Springs, CO; Lisa Katelyn Baker and husband Fred, Portland, OR; Jared Hendricks and wife Liza, Hinesburg VT; Will Hendricks and wife Corrine, Shawnee on Delaware PA; and Isabella and Oliver Hendricks, West Sussex, England. Also by his great grandchildren: Holden, Beau, Margot, Penn, Nora, Claire, and Etta; his daughter in law, Leslie Underhill and Gene; his nieces Margaret and Elizabeth Moss; and nephew Don Moss.

At age 12, Cliff built a Soap Box Derby car in his basement and won the 1939 Soap Box Derby which awarded a 4-year scholarship to Staunton Military Academy in Virginia. He loved cars and worked for Chevrolet in his early career. After serving in the Korean War, he worked for American Motors/Jeep and then Chrysler Corporation. In his role in the automotive industry, he traveled extensively throughout the country working with dealerships. Cliff loved everything about cars and racing. He sponsored youth bicycle racers and traveled with them to competitions. He raced in the Baja 1000 and could recite extensive statistics about most every car and Nascar race driver past and present. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Venice, Florida and volunteered for Buddy Break and various Missions trips through the Church. He loved dogs and shared his Shelties, using them as support dogs, they visited hospitals, nursing homes, and worked with children.

A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
